The Laramie County Conservation District is committed to conserving, restoring, and enhancing wildlife habitat across Laramie County while supporting the people who live and work on the land. Healthy wildlife populations depend on healthy ecosystems, and conservation efforts that benefit wildlife often improve soil health, water quality, rangeland productivity, and overall landscape resilience.
Through voluntary conservation programs, technical assistance, education, and partnerships, the District works with agricultural producers, rural landowners, small acreage owners, municipalities, schools, and community organizations to develop practical solutions to develop practical solutions that protect Wyoming's diverse wildlife and natural resources.
Whether your property consists of a few acres or several thousand, our staff can help identify opportunities to improve habitat while maintaining the intended use of your land. Every property is unique, and our recommendations are tailored to meet your conservation goals.
How It Works
1.) Request Assistance: Start by contacting John Watson to discuss your conservational goals or resource concerns.
2.) Site Visit: A conservation professional will schedule a site visit to evaluate existing conditions, discuss your objectives, and identify conservation opportunities tailored to your land.
3.) Exploring Financial Assistance: If your project qualifies, we'll help you explore financial assistance programs and explain the application process, eligibility requirements, and funding opportunities.
4.) Implementing a Project: Once funding is approved and a plan is in place, you can begin implementing your conservation project. The conservation district will provide guidance and support throughout the process to ensure your project's success.
Current Programs Offered:
Wildlife habitat island program
The Native Shrub & Forb Islands Program helps landowners with properties to establish small clusters of native shrubs and forbs throughout Laramie County. These plantings can be incorporated into existing windbreaks to increase plant diversity, provide food sources for wildlife, and improve habitat and wildlife corridors.
The program also helps demonstrate which native species perform best in our local environment, giving landowners valuable guidance for future planting and landscape decisions.
Range technical assistance
The Rangeland Certified Technical Assistance Program provides landowners and producers with professional guidance to help improve the health, productivity, and sustainability of their rangelands. Technical assistance is available for grazing management, vegetation assessments, weed management, water resources, wildlife habitat, and other conservation practices tailored to your property's needs.
