Overview
Water is one of our most valuable natural resources, and protecting its quality and availability is essential to the health of our communities, agriculture, wildlife, and ecosystems. The Laramie County Conservation District works with landowners, producers, and local partners to promote responsible water stewardship through conservation practices, technical assistance, and educational programs that help protect both surface water and groundwater resources.
Our water programs are designed to address a variety of conservation challenges, including water quality, erosion, watershed health, irrigation efficiency, and sustainable water management. By implementing sound conservation practices, landowners can reduce runoff, improve water use efficiency, protect aquatic habitats, and help ensure clean, reliable water resources for future generations. Whether you're managing agricultural land, improving a property, or restoring natural resources, LCCD is here to provide guidance and support every step of the way.
How It Works
1.) Request Assistance: Start by contacting the Specialist to discuss your conservational goals or resource concerns.
2.) Site Visit: A conservation professional will schedule a site visit to evaluate existing conditions, discuss your objectives, and identify conservation opportunities tailored to your land.
3.) Exploring Assistance: If your project qualifies, we’ll walk you through the relevant programs and help explain the application process, eligibility requirements, and available opportunities.
4.) Implementing a Project: Once a plan is in place, you can begin implementing your conservation project. The conservation district will provide guidance and support throughout the process to ensure your project's success.

Watershed Projects (Historical)
Laramie County Conservation District sponsored the South Platte River Watershed Study which incorporated Crow Creek, Dry Creek, and Lodgepole Creek here in Laramie County.
The Laramie County Conservation District worked with local stakeholders to develop and implement the Crow Creek Watershed Plan. This locally-developed management plan addressed water quality impairments in Crow Creek and recommended Best Management Practices implemented on private and public lands. The plan underwent a public comment period and was approved by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality in March 2004. The plant was implemented and was completed in 2018. If interested, the final review documents can be found at the Wyoming Water Development Office under the South Platte River.

Small Water Program
This program is a partnership with the Small Water Program offered through the Wyoming Water Development Office. The objective of both WWDO and LCCD is to encourage the development of new water sources that will benefit range condition and riparian areas. The program can also be used to address issues that are degrading stream systems. The water program is intended to incorporate conservation of water into every aspect of the hydrologic cycle possible. This includes best management practices to improve irrigation water management, water infiltration, and increase aquifer recharge.

Water Conservation
The LCCD encourages all community members to consider water conservation in their homes and on their properties at all times, including times of drought. Our Specialists can provide technical assistance regarding water-saving measures, including garden and tree watering, water catchment, and water retention on properties.
Technical Assistance
The Laramie County Conservation District provides technical assistance to help landowners, agricultural producers, and community members better manage and protect their water resources. Our staff works with individuals to identify water-related concerns and develop practical conservation solutions that fit the needs of each property, whether addressing irrigation efficiency, water quality, runoff, erosion, or overall watershed health.
