Community Enhancement

The Laramie County Conservation District is working to establish a native Wildlife Habitat "Island" Program (WHIP) to potentially generate a more diverse mix of native habitat and increase wildlife connectivity while enhancing existing tree rows and establish landscapes within rural residential areas in Laramie County.

The program is scheduled to begin Spring 2026 as a pilot project.

If interested in participating in the program, please keep checking in here for upcoming information.

The Laramie County Conservation District has implemented a Native Prairie Island Program aimed at establishing small “islands” of native prairie plant species across Laramie County. This is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Microsoft Community Development Team through their Change X Community Challenge Grant and shared with our partners, the Cheyenne High Plains Audubon Society. Together LCCD and CHPAS are focusing on increasing native pollinator species in Laramie County. With our efforts, we look to increase small islands of pollinator habitat.

If you would like to be part of this program and try planting a wildflower plot we can provide you with a seed mix recommendation and where to purchase the seed. Click here for more information.

Each year, the Laramie County Conservation District accepts proposals for community enhancement projects.  Profits from the District’s Seedling Tree Program provide funding to community groups and organizations for natural resource projects that will improve the environment and natural beauty of Laramie County.
